Quentin Allen, aka Karu hails from Cleveland, Ohio. This a country near America, where people are forced to marry their siblings, speak in meaningless religious hyperbole, and create mutant DNA through sex. Fortunately, Karu has nothing to do with all this darkness. He has lived at the bottom of a 20-foot pit for the past 250 years as a hermit, living from the energy in the air and woodlice and stuff. To keep himself busy, he tinkers on some synthesizers which fell down his pit a few years ago, when that plane from Lost was crashing. You never saw the house music producer on Lost who originally owned this kit as he was supremely boring. He never even made the first episode, except as a charred corpse.

Karu has released his deep and chunky style of house music on respected underground labels such as Silver Network, Mimosa, and Smooth Agent, quietly building a solid reputation for his slick production and musicality. His work has been released on compilations by artists such as Ewan Pearson (on his mix CD for Soma Recordings) and Harley & Muscle. Karu’s debut artist album ‘Amazing Place’ is dropping this June on H&M’s Little Angel label.
On his debut for Winding Road Records, Karu treats us to 3 tracks of electronic soul which all ooze quality and musicality. The sound incorporates elements of techno, funk, fusion and folk.

Beyond Image is a shimmering and hypnotic slice of mellow techno, which washes over the mind like water, as it undulates and breathes in a world of its own.
Nocturnal Skin is like Joni Mitchell singing to herself while she waits in the departure lounge to board the Starship Enterprise. Intimate, fragile, and intriguingly beautiful.
What I’m Feeling then comes in remix form from Winding Road pals and good eggs Rhythm Plate, who turn in a no-messing house mix which complements the package perfectly. Their remix thunks and pumps in all the right places - and sounds amazing on a big system. From Ohio to Derbyshire in one mix – genius!
The EP is rounded off by Karu’s original mix of What I’m Feeling, an angle of crispy techno fusion which hovers in the air and does funny things to time and space.
